Driver accused of wrecking Hoover school bus while drunk may avoid jail
A former Hoover City Schools bus driver fired after a DUI crash in the school bus could get no jail or prison time under a proposed plea agreement.
Mark Pierce, 58, was arrested in January following the wreck on I-459 northbound. He is charged with DUI and improper lane change. Alabama State Troopers said his blood alcohol content was .15 – about four times the legal limit for someone operating a school bus.
It was about 5 p.m. that Wednesday when authorities say Pierce’s bus left the interstate at the Acton Road ramp and ended up in the woods line. There were no children on the bus, and Pierce was not injured.
