Court to decide challenge of DA’s fees

A first-offense driving while intoxicated case argued at the 2rd Circuit Court of Appeal could cost the 3rd Judicial District Court and Union Parish Sheriff’s Office more than a $1 million and affect many other prosecutions.

 

Farmerville attorney Shawn Alford has challenged a 3rd Judicial District practice of assessing a cost-of-prosecution and cost-of-investigation fee in both misdemeanor and felony cases in addition to fines and court costs resulting from a guilty plea or verdict.
