A district judge on Thursday ordered a 49-year-old Helena man accused of 11 drunken-driving offenses to serve 50 years in the Montana State Prison.
District Judge Kathy Seeley imposed the sentence on Shawn Kevin Smaage.
Seeley told Smaage he needed to serve half his sentence before becoming parole eligible, saying previous offenses, failures in treatment and violations of parole demanded the lengthy prison term. She disagreed with allowing him to become parole eligible in 12.5 years as initially requested.
