Last year, drunken drivers in Winnebago County were ordered to pay more than $1 million in fines and case-related costs.

In 2013, judges in Winnebago County assessed $1.1 million in fines, court costs and surcharges for drunken driving convictions. The actual fine consists of less than half of that amount, with the bulk of the total coming in the form of surcharges and court costs that added to the fine, resulting in an amount that often surprises defendants.
