A Rutherford County bus driver was charged on Friday with DUI after a police investigated him for a hit-and-run accident, the school district confirmed.

Jeffery Layne, 53, of Veterans Parkway in Murfreesboro, drives bus 110 for Stewartsboro Elementary School. According to a press release from the district, Layne was charged after completing the elementary school route. The district said it first contacted by Murfreesboro police at approximately 3 p.m. while they were investigating the driver in connection with a reported hit-and-run accident in his private vehicle from earlier in the afternoon.
