Tougher DUI policy awaits Haley’s OK

Nothing will revive 6-year-old Emma Longstreet, but some are hoping legislation that bears her name will save the lives of others by preventing drunken driving.

 

With Gov. Nikki Haley’s signature, South Carolina is poised to become one of about 35 states using ignition interlock devices on the vehicles of some first-time drunken driving offenders. The bill met with a surge of support from legislators, substance abuse prevention specialists and the law enforcement community.
