Whatcom County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Mede was sent to the hospital after his patrol vehicle was hit by an alleged drunken driver for the second time in less than two years.
Just after 8:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, Mede was in a turn lane on Alabama Street waiting to turn onto Cornwall Avenue. His patrol vehicle was hit by a 2007 Dodge Caliber on Cornwall that ran a red light at Alabama, the Washington State Patrol said. The Dodge also hit another vehicle traveling through the intersection.
