Woman suspected of DWI in accident near Hammond that killed her father

A 22-year-old woman from Holden, La., who is suspected of driving while intoxicated, could be booked with vehicular homicide in a traffic accident that took the life of her father, according to State Police. Amber Hoyt lost control of the 2000 Kia Sport she was driving on Louisiana 1064 near Hammond in Tangipahoa Parish at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree.

 

Her father, Douglas Hoyt, 45, also of Holden, was in the front seat of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported to North Oaks Medical Center where he died of injuries sustained in the crash, according to a State Police news release.
